Escaping the Caffeine Craze

If there’s one thing I can’t live without, it’s a drink- more specifically a drink that makes my teeth jitter and heart palpitate. As a coffee drinker going on 7 years, there’s something about pulling up to an orange and pink painted building and consuming a sugar-infested medium iced latte that makes my eyes snap open with ecstasy. Though my Dunkin coffee could be deemed an irrational and health hazardous purchase to some, and I can’t argue the impending heart conditions and weary bank account.
As a graduating senior, these past few months I’ve been more aware of my increased intake. Perhaps from the paranoia and nausea that tag along with each sip. Or the extended wait times in the communal bathrooms on campus. And whether it be Dunkin, Red-Bull, Monster, or Dr. Pepper- I can safely say i’m an addict of sorts. It’s becoming clear that my generation just can’t seem to get through each harrowing day without a treat. It’s hard to resist in the times of seeking small joys to muddle the uncertainty of the future.
In fact, almost 85% of adults in the U.S. consume caffeine daily according to the National Institute of Health. Though whether this is by choice or convenience is hard to tell (seriously, even matcha has caffeine). I’m unsure if this formidable ingredient is escapable on the day-to-day drink run, but I certainly won’t settle for just any decaf cocktail or mock coffee. So here are some un-caffeinated drinks that I feel are worth the lack of stimulant and vanilla bean syrup.
Aroma Joes Caffeine-Free Rush
Typically made with Red Bull, these drinks are now being offered without caffeine. I urge you to get the cloud foam topper for a creamier experience. I’m still working my way through all the possible flavor combinations!
Tropical Smoothie Café
As far as smoothies go, the price for a variety of fruits and flavors is a steal. It’s already ahead of coffee in nutrition, especially if you can’t seem to stomach food in the morning.
Chic-fil-a Pineapple Dragon Fruit
This recent line of drink products can be paired with lemonade, iced tea, or my personal favorite- frozen. It’s more off the beaten path than Starbucks, and a better price as well.
